Susan Van Note,
Somatic Practitioner
Susan has dedicated her life to helping people feel at ease in their bodies. She helps her clients let go of chronic muscle tension so that they can move freely and be pain free. She's a certified practitioner in Feldenkrais®, Craniosacral therapy, and Havening Techniques®, as well as an LMT. Susan has completed a certification in Integrative Somatic Trauma-informed Therapy.
Feeling freedom from physical pain and emotional stress are intimately connected—when we can release chronic pain or tension in our bodies, our emotional and mental stress and anxiety spontaneously improve.

What do I need to bring to this workshop?
For 2 of the 4 exercises, you will be lying on your back on the floor (or on your bed if the floor isn't accessible to you). Please wear loose, comfortable clothing like sweat pants and shirt. Have a warm layer and socks nearby in case you get cold. Have a yoga mat or carpet and place your laptop or device about 5 feet away from the long side of your mat or floor space. (More information will be provided when you enroll.)

What if I need more support?
The tools taught in this workshop are a safe, effective and powerful place to start! If you want to continue going deeper, both Karena and Susan have individual and group programs to help you continue to take strides to shift your stress and find your calm center.
How is this workshop different from other “stress-reducing” workshops?
Most stress and anxiety-reduction techniques involve mindset practices like guided meditation, focusing on the positive, visualization and so on. These are helpful tools, but when we feel anxious or stressed, our nervous system needs to be attended to in its agitated state first.
Mind over matter isn’t useful.
In this workshop, we will meet you exactly where you are. We will begin to shift and rewire your habituated stress responses in your nervous system and body, as well as address your most stress-inducing emotions.
We would never expect a small crying child to just stop crying and think positive thoughts. We would address this child by hugging her and then allow her to feel safe first. This is how we work with our stress and anxious feelings — through our body. Once safety is created in our body and nervous system, our logical mind can be brought into the process and we can utilize other techniques.
How long will it take to see a change in my stress levels?
You'll experience a deep body relaxation and leave the workshop feeling different from when you came in. After the workshop is over, it will be up to you to utilize the tools and techniques you learned, but we make it as easy as possible by providing you with audio recordings and a pdf to support you.
Most people who utilize these tools see a difference almost immediately. Plus, the effects of these tools are cumulative - the more you practice them, the greater the difference you'll experience!
